Java Runtime Environment
Nanos requires a Java Runtime Environment in order to run on your computer. The Nanos disc contains a Java Runtime Environment. Java is a leading software technology and programming language by SUN Microsystems, Inc., allowing software developers to create leading-edge software that will run on all operating systems for which a Java Runtime Environment is available. SUN makes Java Runtime Environments available free of charge for a very broad range of operating systems, including Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, and Windows. Thanks to Java, there are Nanos versions for all of these operating systems. Each version of Nanos comes with a Java Runtime Environment for the operating system it is intended for, included on the Nanos disc. For example, the Windows version of Nanos comes with a Java Runtime Environment for Windows. The only exception is Mac OS X, because there the Java Runtime Environment is integrated into the operating system itself by Apple Inc. themselves.
